Mediani: Empowering Media Transactions with Cutting-Edge Solutions

Interview with Co-founder Jesse Heimonen

Mediani is reshaping the landscape of media advertising by providing innovative tools for buying and selling ad spaces across multiple channels. With the support of the Scaleup Launchpad, this Finnish marketing technology company is aiming to expand internationally.

What is Mediani’s core product or service?

Mediani is a marketing technology company that simplifies ad space transactions for advertisers and publishers alike. Our solutions help streamline the process of buying and selling advertising space, making it more transparent and efficient.

Our offering is built around three core products:

  1. Mediani.fi marketplace: An open platform where advertisers and publishers can seamlessly buy and sell ad spaces. For publishers, it serves as an effective channel for acquiring new customers and enhancing multichannel sales.

  2. Custom eCommerce solutions for publishers: We help publishers establish their own media webshops, enabling them to serve their customers with modern tools tailored specifically to the media industry. For example, customers can visit the Hilla Group's webshop to purchase ad spaces directly.

  3. Direct Sales tools: These tools enhance the efficiency of media houses' sales teams by providing solutions for personal sales activities.

Our business model includes both transactional revenue—earning commissions from activities on our platforms—and SaaS revenues from our eCommerce and operational tools. Both streams are pivotal for our growth strategy.

How Could the Scaleup Launchpad Help Your Company?

Mediani views the Scaleup Launchpad program as an essential step in its journey toward internationalization. By participating, the company has gained initial insights into foreign markets and has started valuable discussions with potential clients in Sweden.

“Our first steps in Sweden include launching an inventory management tool, which has already sparked promising leads. The program has been instrumental in helping us learn about the market and make these connections,” says Jesse Heimonen.

What opportunities do you see in the Estonian and Swedish markets?

While we are relatively new to these markets, we see potential. Through the program, we’ve already gained our first leads in Sweden, and we’re learning a lot about the market dynamics. We aim to establish ourselves as a potential partner for local publishers and advertisers, leveraging our proven tools and services.

“Our understanding of these markets is still developing, but the program offers a unique chance to gain firsthand knowledge. Collaborating with Swedish companies that have similar customer bases but non-competing business models has been particularly valuable,” Heimonen explains.

Our ultimate goal is to secure our first international client within the next year. With the support of the Scaleup Launchpad and the opportunities these markets present, I believe this is highly achievable.

What are your thoughts on the other companies in the program?

It’s been fascinating to see the diversity of companies in the program, each bringing unique solutions to their industries. The opportunity to collaborate and share experiences has been incredibly valuable. Some companies are already well-established internationally, while others, like us, are taking their first steps in scaling up.

What’s next for Mediani?

We are focused on scaling up both our transactional and SaaS businesses. International growth is a key priority, starting with Sweden and Estonia, and expanding further in the coming years. And like I said, our goal is to secure the first international client.

With its innovative products and a clear vision for the future, Mediani is set to make a lasting impact on the media industry. The Scaleup Launchpad (powered by Business Tampere) is helping this ambitious company turn its growth aspirations into reality.
