Interview with CEO Jarkko Haukijärvi, eGate
eGate is revolutionizing construction data management by providing real-time insights into construction schedules, safety, and quality. With the support of the Scaleup Launchpad, this Finnish innovator is poised to expand its reach internationally.
What is your company’s core product or service?
Our core product is a construction data management tool that collects and processes data to create a real-time situational overview for construction projects. The goal is to optimize project timelines, improve safety, and ensure quality.
eGate provides real-time view of site conditions, enabling proactive actions such as optimizing concrete drying conditions, improving safety, and ensuring projects stay on schedule. One of our most innovative features is the patented ePredict, which uses advanced data analytics to predict concrete drying times, giving construction companies a critical edge in project planning.
Currently, we’re active in over 300 construction sites in Finland and have recently expanded to Sweden and the United States. We focus on providing actionable insights that make decision-making seamless for construction companies.
How can Scaleup Launchpad support your company?
The Scaleup Launchpad is instrumental in two key areas. Firstly, it helps us connect with potential clients, particularly construction firms in Estonia and Sweden. Secondly, it might support us in securing financing, which is crucial as we navigate the challenges of scaling up.
While our distribution channels, including partnerships with major players Cramo Group and Boels Rental, are well-established, we need additional support in reaching end customers and raising awareness about our solutions.
One standout aspect of the program is the HippoMeter tool. This structured and thorough evaluation process has been invaluable for us, and I believe every startup seeking funding should go through it.
What opportunities do you see in the Estonian and Swedish markets?
Both markets present potential. Our collaboration with Cramo and Boels Rental has already paved the way for growth in the Baltics, Scandinavia, and Central Europe.
Our goal is to establish strong sales networks and direct connections with local construction companies in these regions. This will be crucial as we aim to expand into 18 countries within the next three years.
What are your thoughts on the other companies in the program?
The diversity of companies in the program is inspiring. Each company is at a different stage of its growth journey, and the shared experiences and insights are incredibly valuable. The support and camaraderie among participants make the process of internationalization much less daunting.
What’s next for eGate?
We are determined to leverage the Scaleup Launchpad to its full potential. Our immediate focus is on expanding into Sweden, Estonia, and other Baltic countries, while also building a robust pipeline of international clients. I didn't make it to Sweden's meeting, but I'm trying to get to Estonia's joint meeting in January.
The Scaleup Launchpad (powered by Business Tampere) is helping eGate among twenty scaleups in three countries.
